Technique: The Science of Relationship
The concepts contained in this essay are adapted from the text of Teacher Training, Lessons 3 and 4, given by Lucille Cedercrans.
Realize that a state of love exists in harmony. To experience this, bring to mind another human being you relate to within a field of harmony. Note that they have many differences from you in rays, point in evolution, age, situation, circumstance, and worldview. Yet, in harmony, love qualifies the relationship and allows an easy recognition of kinship, fellowship, and accord. Spend a moment or two in this harmony, and with intent share fully in this field of love. Recognize the natural understanding you have for each other even when not in full agreement.
Now bring to mind a human being you relate to within a field of disharmony. Again, they probably have many differences from you in rays, point in evolution, age, situation, location, circumstance and worldview. Notice how these differences more so stand in the way of a sense of kinship, fellowship, and accord. Spend a moment in this disharmony and recognize the obstructions to understanding each other, and of sharing the field of love with each other.
Consider the root of the difference between the two fields. Since Divine Love is always universally present, why is it so easily lived within in one relationship and so difficult in another?
In getting to the root of the difference, consider that the common factor in both relationships is you. Consider that the “I” that you are so sure of being is far more complex than it might seem. In one sense, the “I” consciousness living in the brain is an access point for the personas of your previous incarnations residing in the astral consciousness. These personas are very much alive and active, and they operate behind the awareness of brain consciousness. Realize that this astral field is in a higher vibratory state than is the etheric/physical brain, and therefore overshadows it. Realize also that every impulse impacting your emotional field horizontally (from the actions and/or emotions of another human) must pass through the aggregate of the previous personas (with all of their unresolved issues) in order to affect the brain consciousness.
When one of these personas, or more likely, a group of these personas perceive that an incoming impulse is a threat, they react to that threat by defending themselves. Since, each persona was introduced into its life as a separate individual, defense is integral to that state and is entirely natural. They usually put up the defense by commandeering the “I” consciousness in the brain. This defense operates by destroying, lessening, or avoiding the danger by using some variation of fight or flight. It seeks to destroy or diminish the power of the offender, or get out of, or force the offender out of the environment.
This is a usual state for most humans, but the “I” consciousness in the brain of a disciple is more than an access point for this aggregate of personas. The “I” of a disciple is also consciously identified as soul in incarnation, an agent of Divine Love. Love is the natural state of this “I”, and usually prevails when no threat is perceived by the previous personas; it is naturally in a state of harmony and kinship with others. Even so, because of its inexperience as a soul in incarnation, it can still be highjacked by the previous personas, and not even realize that that is happening. Discipleship could be regarded as that period in the evolution of consciousness when the identity cycles between soul identification and previous persona identification. During these cycles, relation problems can still appear to be exclusively caused by others. Much time can be spent trying to adjust horizontal relationships with others, most often by requiring others to fulfil the conditions that will not cause your previous personas to react and assume control.
Eventually the soul in incarnation comes to realize that problems with others are actually out-picturings, or dramatic representations of the relationships it has with its own previous personas. This realization can open up an entirely new way to deal with human relation problems. You can realize that the lack of harmony you are having with another is showing you the nature of the relationship you have with at least one of your previous personas.
One common relationship problem involves some degree of disdain, maybe even contempt. To see the root of that, realize that in your march forward through the evolution of consciousness, you probably moved on from being the way you were in a previous incarnation. But in so doing, it is likely that you renounced that way of being human; you probably considered yourself as rising above it; you probably turned away from it and hoped it would die from lack of attention. Now, through experiencing this wrong relation with another human being, it becomes possible to realize that as a previous persona, you formed a relationship with that way of being human that was not qualified by love. Now, whenever you perceive that way of being in another human being you can be triggered to renounce it, rise above it, fix it, or turn away from it in the hopes that it will die from lack of attention.
Being the soul in incarnation changes everything; it means that you can put this relationship right, both with your previous incarnation, as well as with all humans who are going through what you went through as that persona. Know that you are already in essential unity with that persona, in that it was literally you. You do not need to know all the circumstances of that persona’s life; the unresolved issue is what is important. Now, you can understand what was unresolved for that persona by recognizing the nature of the issue you are now having with the other human being.
In using that insight, it becomes possible to understand that issue as an issue of discipleship, and to resolve it in the wisdom of the soul. As you do this, the soul gains, the Christ gains, the fifth kingdom gains further manifestation. As the soul, you can sweep that previous “you” into the field of love and understanding. Show this former self, who is essentially a part of yourself, gratitude for involving into this frequency of substance, with all of its limitations, and in the face of the lack of the quality of love in that substance. This is the purpose of that incarnation: to bring love to life in that frequency range of substance, to make that substance holy. Even though, at the time, that persona did not know it had a mission and certainly not this mission, you can now fulfil the mission of this persona with the love it demands, with the love it is invoking.
Looking a little deeper, you might notice that there are at least two previous personas involved here. One is the persona to which you are reacting, the one that is out-pictured by the other human being. This one is usually a modeling of something that seems to you as strikingly unevolved, something you have seemingly renounced and moved on from. Looking further, get a sense of the persona that has taken over the “I” consciousness in your brain; look at the one who is reacting to that unevolved persona. This one is a little closer to home, one more like the usual you, the one who holds that unevolved state in a degree of disdain or contempt. This one too, maybe even more so, needs the wise council, the understanding, and love of the soul. This is also an opportunity to see the interrelationship between all the personas; check to see if there is not a third previous persona taking over the “I” consciousness in the brain and saying something like “Why do I always do that? I must not have any love in me. I will never learn.” You might even experience another giving that one counsel. The relationships between these previous personas are complicated, much like the relationships between humans in the body of Humanity.
Each persona opens the door to a way of being human. Together, they are our humanity stretched over a wide swath of frequencies of substance. If we are to truly enter into loving relationships with other human beings, we will first have to enter into loving relationships with our previous personas. Understanding our own personas unlocks the door to understanding any persona. In the wise use of love and identification, we can eventually bring the nature of the soul into all our previous personas, and in the love of the soul become all ways of being human. This is a great step forward in the ability to identify with any and every persona, and in the ability to serve other human beings by actually being their humanity.
As the soul we can relate to our personas in kinship. As the soul, understanding their true needs, we can relate to them as a servant. As the soul, in true humility, we can share with them the attitudes and insights, the inspirations, and the sense of promise we have gathered along the way. As the soul we can fulfill a long-held possibility: integrating all the incarnations together into a viable service unit. Thus integrated, that huge swath of experience and identified relation within various grades of substance can be used to serve the purpose of the one in whom we live, exist and move.
No doubt, disciples love abstract concepts, but do not overlook the simple concepts that are the very life of discipleship and initiation. Practice love in your relations with others by:
Discarding all your weapons of defense.
Constantly searching your heart to see if your actions are rooted in your love of another or in defense of yourself.
Willingly accepting with love any negative energy directed towards you.
Giving in return only love, understanding, and compassion.
Responding with the real effort to defend not you, but the one who would offend you.
